What NOT to Do as a Keyboard Warrior for Kamala
Some helpful tips from the Keyboard for Kamala team on what makes a difference.
What NOT to do
You want to spend your time as efficiently as possible to help Kamala win online. To get the most bang for your buck, avoid these common pitfalls:
Do not try to convince a Trump voter. Switching someone’s vote is much, much more difficult than trying to convince someone who is on the fence, or get someone out of the house to vote. Focus your energy on those people instead.
Do not get sucked into comment threads, especially on pro-Trump posts. The social media algorithms love comments. They are generally weighted 5-10 times more than likes. When you comment on a post, you are boosting that post.
There is a balance to strike - on a post that is already high visibility, commenting early about your support for Kamala (with a pro-Kamala video, for example) can be a great counterbalance and give a lot of visibility to a pro-Kamala message to an audience that would otherwise not see it (think Kamala going on Fox News). However, arguing with a Trump voter on the 10th reply is much less effective.
Do not post on your Facebook timeline. Facebook actively downranks political content on your feed. If you post political content, your friends may never see it. Instead, focus your energy on Facebook Stories and Facebook Groups. Facebook’s algorithm is much more friendly to stories, and Facebook Groups have their own feed for active members to view.
